Edge paver with automatic edge tracking
Edge paver FKL21

The edge paver FKL21 together with ForshagaSpridaren is a unique system. Thanks to the built-in sensors, the paver can automatically follow the edge of the pavement and control the discharge. This effectively minimizes spillage on the pavement, providing a very efficient setup. The machine also has a built-in vibrator for compressing the material. The design means that only one vehicle and one person are needed to lay edge strips.

BACKGROUND

The main purpose of the edge band is to reduce the impact of water running off the road and to support the edge of the pavement so that it does not crack or deform when vehicles drive on or near the edge of the road. By laying new or complementing edge bands, the lifespan of the pavement can be extended.

Edge paver FKL21 is specially designed for only one vehicle and one person to be able to perform edge banding. This makes the equipment particularly economical and efficient. The driver is significantly relieved thanks to automatic edge tracking, filling, and compression, making the work less strenuous.

EXECUTION

The edge paver is connected to the regular towing device and stands on its own wheels when the vehicle's platform is tipped. If the towing device is missing, a separate bracket is available as an accessory.

The machine consists of a material conveyor, trough, scraper, and vibrator. The design is specially developed to minimize material spillage on the pavement from the conveyor and discharge trough. The entire edge paver is easily controlled in or out from the roadside via a built-in actuator directly from the driver's control unit. The edge paver is delivered complete with LED rear lights (rear, brake lights, and indicators) and LED flashing lights in a stainless steel rear light panel.

WORKFLOW

Raise the platform until the edge paver stands on the ground. Drive the edge paver out until the system locks against the edge of the pavement. Press start and drive, the machine automatically follows the edge and fills material as needed. The machine's functions can also be controlled manually.

As support for the driver, the system signals any deviations, e.g., in the absence of an edge or lack of material, with an acoustic signal. The screen continuously displays information about edge height, discharged material quantity, etc.

WIRELESS CONTROL

The driver controls the machine wirelessly with a smartphone app. All electronics are fully integrated into the spreader, and only plus and minus need to be connected. This contributes to high operational reliability and simplified use.

Control via app

Control of start, stop, and positioning is done by pointing at the screen. The app has a well-thought-out menu system where program selection and all machine functions are easily controlled directly on the screen.

With over 1000 installations, the app is well-proven and has received very good reviews. Download and read more about the app on Google Play.

TRANSPORT

When the platform is lowered, the edge paver is lifted by chains to the transport position for quickly fetching material or moving the equipment to the next workplace - without the driver having to leave the cab.

DISCHARGE TROUGH

The machine's discharge trough, scraper, and vibrator are specially developed to form an edge strip that meets the Swedish Transport Administration's requirements according to TRVK Road 2011:072 / AMA 10 DCB.611, where the edge strip width must be ≥ 0.25 m. The width, slope, and height of the edge strip can be fine-tuned according to the material used.

AUTOMATIC FILLING

Filling of the discharge trough is automatic thanks to the integrated level meter. An acoustic signal in the control unit indicates to the driver if the vehicle's speed is higher than the material flow allows.

VIBRATOR

To compress and level the edge strip, a spring-suspended electric vibrator follows in the trough extension. The start and stop of this are controlled directly from the app.

AUTOMATIC EDGE TRACKING

When laying edges, the positioning of the trough against the edge of the pavement can be controlled manually with buttons or automatically via sensors.

The machine is equipped with sensors that continuously measure the height of the pavement and the position of the trough. The machine can automatically follow well-defined edges with a height of 10 mm or more. This means that the machine automatically adjusts the position of the trough laterally to optimally place the edge strip.

EDGE HEIGHT MEASUREMENT

The driver continuously sees the measured edge height directly in the app. This is often a great help in meeting the client's requirements when improving old edge strips.

DOCUMENTATION & DATA TRANSFER

All machine activities are continuously logged in the system with GPS position and time, allowing for tracking and quality assurance. Log files are easily opened in TimeReport, available for download on our customer pages. Read more about this system here.

Our machines follow the EU standard for the transmission of operational data (CEN-15430) to, for example, the Swedish Transport Administration. Several suppliers such as Mowic and Zeekit can automatically receive this data in their systems for further processing.
